One of the cookies we made for Valentine's Day was a huge hit. They were festive looking and very fun and easy to make. So even though the holiday is over, I'm back to blog about it because this "project" (it's too damn easy to call a recipe) can be adapted to ANY holiday or event. In fact, it can be adapted to use any cookie, too. Make it your own.
I found the original Valentine's Day idea on Her Cup Overfloweth and latched onto it because good old fashioned Oreos are Stephen's favorite guilty pleasure. She used CandiQuik for the dipping, but I substituted white chocolate chips because it's what they had at my store.

The deal is, you can pair any cookie (store bought or homemade)
with any meltable chips (chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch, peanut butter or
mint). And
remember, if you use white chocolate you can add food coloring, too. I put a cup of chips in a glass bowl, microwaved for one minute per package directions and stirred.

Dunk the cookie in the goo then just use sprinkles for whatever
holiday or event you're celebrating. For some odd reason, my mother
sends me sprinkles in the mail. Like, often. I probably have more sprinkles
than Amy Sedaris.
Once they're all decorated, lay them out on a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper and pop the tray in the fridge until the they set. Boom. Done.

It's all about dipping and sprinkling so kids as young as 2 can enjoy making these. It's like an edible craft project. These aren't gourmet but they are totally doable for a busy working mom, a mom with more kids than hands, or a mom who has forgotten all about dessert until the last minute.
Next time we'll use Newman's Own or Country Choice cookies to steer clear of the partially hydrogenated gunk, but for Valentine's Day I went whole hog for my man because nothing says I Love You quite like artery clogging chemicals.
St. Patrick's Day:
Chocolate wafers, melted mint chips, white sprinkles
Easter:
Sugar cookies or vanilla wafers, mint chips or white chocolate with pink or blue food coloring, pastel sprinkles
4th of July:

Halloween:
Oreos, white chocolate (left white or colored orange), chocolate and or orange sprinkles
Thanksgiving:
Ginger snaps, white chocolate chips, orange, yellow & chocolate sprinkles
Chocolate wafers, peabut butter chips, orange, yellow & chocolate sprinkles
Christmas:
Oreos, white chocolate chips, red & green sprinkles
Hanukkah:

You get the idea. We ate ours cookies straight up, but I think 2 of any of these in a dish of ice cream would look good enough for company as they say.
